About This Spot

Stepping into The Old Hill Fish and Chip Shop feels like slipping into a cherished corner of Falmouth, where the pace slows just enough to appreciate simple pleasures. Nestled on Glasney Road, this spot carries the warmth of tradition wrapped in the lively buzz of locals catching up over classic comfort food. The air hums with the inviting scent of sizzling batter and fresh-cut chips, drawing you closer even before you reach the counter.

Here, there’s an easy rhythm to the experience—orders are cooked to demand, promising that each crispy bite is fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The atmosphere is friendly and unpretentious, a gathering place where the modest act of sharing fish and chips feels like a small, familiar celebration. It’s the kind of place that rewards the patient visitor, especially on busy evenings where waiting becomes part of the anticipation.

The offerings capture a genuine reverence for tradition without feeling stuck in the past. The fish, encased in golden, crackling batter, pairs beautifully with chips that strike that elusive balance between crisp exterior and soft, fluffy center. Beyond the food itself, subtle touches—like the decision to cook in beef dripping—whisper of a deeper respect for authentic flavors, elevating what might otherwise be a routine meal into a quietly memorable experience.

For those wandering through Falmouth or locals seeking a reliable, heartfelt stop, The Old Hill provides more than just fast food; it’s a humble ode to a British classic served with care, savoring the human moments that make a simple meal feel satisfying and true.

Probably the best chips I've had in Falmouth. Great crispy chips with a soft fluffy inside texture. Fish was nice and crispy too and great batter. A bit too much salt on the fish but definitely a good proper chippy that I'd be happy to buy from again. Recommend calling to order as waiting time is around 20 mins on a busy Friday eve.

Standard fish and half a portion of standard chips works out at £8 Lovely battered fish and good chips Cooked to order Very nice indeed

Walking up Old Hill burned off enough body fat to compensate for the great fish & chips. Lovely and tasty, cooked perfectly.

So happy to find a fish and chip shop that uses beef dripping (traditional!!!) instead of palm oil or other refined “vegetable” oils. Hooray!
